You may or may not have noticed.
But I did a post on Haiti, on how sad the situation there is, and how it's hard for us to look outside of our comfortable little bubbles and realize the pain and suffering going on in other parts of the world. But I deleted it. I felt it was too preachy and didn't properly acknowledge the fact that I, too, am guilty of doing the very same thing. Stuck in my little bubble, my world, my routine. Breakfast, class, dinner, homework, repeat. (Notice the lunch was missing...that's because I have classes scheduled back-to-back from 9am-4pm with only 15-minute breaks. What was I thinking!?!?) Anyway, I just wanted to make it clear that I'm just as wrapped up in my own life as the next gal. However, I still think it's SO important that we try to put ourselves in another person's shoes and be generous with our resources, since even if we are poor by U.S. standards (college kids, cough)we are living in the top 1% of the world's wealth and should always remember that.
Anyway, today there is a tornado warning. IN ARIZONA! What are the odds? Looking out my window right now, it looks a lot like Seattle. A thick, impenetrable blanket of clouds that makes you forget what sunshine looks like. Since the weather is hardly ever like this in AZ, I am relishing it. Rain reminds me of poet societies, cozy fireplace nooks, musty old libraries with literary gems in cloth jackets, and argyle sweaters.
I am really enjoying school so far. I have finally started the teacher preparation program, which means that in 3 semesters (so fall 2011) I will be starting my student teaching, and in 4 semesters I'll be graduated! I cannot wait to get out of ASU. But I am still going to enjoy the next 2 years. I really love the people in my classes so far, and since we're officially a "cohort", I will be with these same people 'til I graduate! So it's a good thing I like them! My favorite class so far is child & adolescent development. I think that every person who aspires to be a mom (like me) should take this class. It's already so informative, and today was only the second day! Not to mention that my professor is awesomely hilarious, engaging and laidback. He doesn't even take attendance! (Not that I'm planning on taking advantage of that. It's too interesting to miss a class.)
In other news, I had a job interview yesterday for the Science Center, to be a gallery interpreter! What a fun job! I hope I get it.
